It's water vapour created when the aircraft is pulling high G in this very wet weather. I got very soaked in the rain but it was worth it for this shot alone. I don't know what it is like where you are but in the UK aircraft are not permitted to break the sound barrier at airshows. I guess it would generate many complaints from local nieghbours when they find their windows broken. Besides I really would have to be a god to capture the aircraft travelling that fast, especially with hardly any light to play with. :D

I use a Sigma 120-400mm, and it was shot at full focal length. :)
