It always pays to go through old photographs. I didn't even know I had taken this one but there it was on my hard drive taken in 2010 at the Dunsfold Wings and Wheels.

The shot is far from perfect, but it's the best shot I have of the Sea Hawk in flight. Sadly she has been grounded ever since and although she will make it back to the circuit at some point I do not know when that will be. She is the sole airworthy example of her type anywhere in the world and belongs to the Royal Navy Historic Flight based at RNAS Yeovilton.

I hope you will pardon my ignorance, but why is this shot imperfect? O.K. If you had to be really picky it might be the background in the overall composition, but as a capture of the aircraft is 1st class in my book.

Don't get me wrong, if I were that unhappy with it I would not have uploaded it. However when I said it is far from perfect, for me it is a clarity issue. The shot is only superficially sharp. It looks okay at this size but when viewed in a larger size, it is not particularly sharp at a more detailed level. I took this several years ago now and I guess I am used to seeing what I can do now, I have a better camera now and have improved a little.

For most I guess all of this wouldn't matter, but I have always been very self critical. It keeps me on my toes and makes sure I am always improving.

I understand all what you have said. There are a lot of guys here that aspire to your standards.

That's very nice of you to say! I guess when you get a reputation for doing something well, you do try your hardest to keep it. I certainly don't like the thought of disappointing my watchers. I know that is unlikely, but it is still hard to shake the feeling. I guess that is an artists curse. It's all relative though! Everybody works at different levels of skill and experience so what is good and what is bad is only really defined by yourself. It's a case that when you view your own work you can only ever see what it could have been, where as when viewing others you see what it is. I am glad you like it though, and am always appreciative that you take the time to view, comment and fave my work. It means a lot to know my photography is appreciated. :)

Nothing wrong with having standards and maintaining them! I have found the best images here on dA are where the photographer talks about the image, what they did etc. that way we gain from the experience! Keep shooting!
