terrific shot that gives an excellent look at how clean this design really is. there are still hundreds of them flying, a real tribute to the work of Douglas Aircraft.
This one has true war history too. It took part in the Normandy landings and was used throughout the rest of the war taking part in both Operations Market Garden and Varsity. She is now based at East Kirkby, which is now the Licolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre but served as RAF East Kirkby, a Lancaster base during the war. Appropriately though for the Dakota, after the war RAF East Kirkby was used by the USAF Strategic Air Command and operated Search and Rescue SC-47 Dakotas
simply amazing to learn this history and some of the real significance of what this machine was part of. that makes it that much more special. thank you for bringing this to us and helping preserve and pass along the history and knowledge.
