@Midway2009 - The Belle was an early "F" model, this is a fairly late production "G".

Great shot. One of my favorite airplanes. Used to know someone whose father was a B-17 commander in the 91st in Bassingbourn.

The Memphis Belle!

She wears the colours of Memphis Belle as she was one of the aircraft that played her briefly in the movie of the same name. However the name everybody knows this B-17 by is "Sally B". Not a wartime name but named for her current owner Ellie Sallingboe. Her then partner Ted White was responsible for bringing the aircraft to the UK from France and getting her onto the airshow circuit. Sadly he died in a flying accident whilst piloting a North American T-6 Harvard. Ellie Sallingboe has kept the B-17 flying in the UK ever since and she has now been flying for 37 years on the UK airshow circuit. Amazing considering how hard it is to finance such an aircraft. You can see in this photograph that one of the engine cowlings is painted in a yellow and black checker board. This is in memory of Ted White as this was how the nose of his Harvard was painted.

The lines of the B17 are just "Majestic" for lack of a better word

She could steal the show all by herself.
