It may be an unusual choice but personally I would describe this display by an Italian Air Force Alenia C-27J Spartan as probably the best military aircraft display it is possible to see right now. What? I hear you all say, How can that be? It doesn't have an afterburner or trail coloured smoke! You must be mad! Well no it doesn't have any of those things or even a pretty paint scheme. However anybody who has seen the display will surely agree that what they do with this aircraft is just astonishing. When a display aircraft of this size which was designed for the transport role, perfoms rolls, wingovers, knife edge passes and loops as part of the routine, you know it is going to be an exciting display. And yes it was a full loop.
This was taken during the Royal International Air Tattoo 2011.
Well clearly it isn't able to perform knife edge across the entire airbase quite the same way that a fighter could but it's astonishing to see it do it at all. You should check this video video out of the display. Worth watching. [link]
I wouldn't think it would have enough rudder to do a knife-edge pass, but it they throttled back the upper(!) engine, who knows?
